Susan trained at the University of Sydney then completing specialist paediatric and Adolescent Medicine training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children subsequently The Children’s Hospital at Westmead where she was Head of Adolescent Medicine across the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network for many years . As Clinical Professor with the University of Sydney Medical School Susan continues in the teaching and training of medical students and supervision of trainees in the evolving area of Adolescent Medicine.
Susan has extensive clinical experience with special interests in young people living with complex chronic conditions including post viral and chronic fatigue syndromes, assessing and managing associated complications. Taking a psychosocial developmental approach and working with the young person and family to manage symptoms, the challenges of maintaining treatment regimens, meeting educational goals and considering emerging impacts on sleep, mood and behaviour is most important to improve overall health and wellbeing.
Susan has continued ongoing clinical research in these areas, has published extensively, taken on leadership roles within Ministry of Health and non-government organisations and continues to advocate for adolescent health issues so that their unique health needs are more effectively met across our health system.
